Concert Band

The Band of the South Australia Police was made a full time unit in 1958 and changed from brass to military instrumentation (Concert Band) in 1974.
The Concert Band instrumentation is based on tradition in line with similar military and service bands throughout Australia and around the world. With musical trends changing in modern times the Band of the South Australia Police has adapted and followed those trends with the addition electronic instruments and vocalists.
The full complement of the Band of the South Australia Police is 36 musicians. The Concert Band consists of one conductor and 34 playing musicians.

Many of the Musicians in the Band of the South Australia Police are multi-talented instrumentalists who double on other woodwind, brass and percussion instruments to cater for different styles of music and smaller ensembles. Some of the musicians in the Concert Band also have other expertise in Sound Engineering, Musical Arranging, Compering and Singing.
The Concert Band caters for all age groups in the community bringing the community together with music providing a from line public relations unit for the South Australia Police and providing ceremonial support assisting tourism in the State of South Australia.
The repertoire of the Band of the South Australia Police covers traditional Military Music (marches), Light Popular Classics, Swing Music, Vocals Popular and Swing, featuring Soloists and Sections from the Band. The Band plays many of the current and past popular hit songs and is very up to date with current Movie Themes, Contemporary Arrangements from the Symphonic Band Repertoire and selections from Broadway Musicals.
The Band of the South Australia Police is very popular and has an enormous following throughout South Australia and Australia. It encourages the youth of South Australian with Work Experience and provides important police messages to all age groups of the community helping to create a safer community leading the way to the 21st Century.
