Work Experience with the Police Band

In 2007, a successful Work Experience week was undertaken by the Band, and after positive feedback from Students and Teachers it was decided to continue with this program.

Applications are sought by instrumental music students from Years 10-12 interested in joining the Band of the South Australia Police Band for work experience in 2009.

Work experience will be held at Thebarton Police Barracks, Band Room, located at the corner of Port Road and Gaol Road Thebarton, with days starting at 8am.

This will be a dynamic week including;

  • Observation of SAPOL Band ensembles

  • Three days rehearsal, leading up to a public performance with the Band

  • Small group sectionals with mentorship by Band members on the same instrument.

  • Information sessions run by Band management team on all aspects of Band operations

  • The week is designed to give students an idea of what the standards are to be a professional musician.

The rehearsal week will culminate with a joint public performance to be held at the Grainger Studios (Hindley Street) where the students can perform in a concert situation with the SAPOL Band.  This performance admissible by Gold Coin donation (to cover some costs) for all attendees.

We ask school staff that place students for work experience, to register suitable musically talented students to join the Band for one week.
